Behemoth: The apostasy

12/06/07  ||  Euthanatos

After Behemoth released “Demigod”, I didn’t think these fuckers could get any better. They were at the top of their game, the best of the best, the whoopteedoo, well, you get the picture. But I was wrong, see. “The Apostasy” is the fucking shit of fucking shits. Sure, I’ve been saying ridiculously frequently that “this album is going to be on my top 10 list”, well, what the fuck can I do, man? I just happened to have stumbled upon three fucking killer albums this past month or so, and I’m not about to find faults in them just for the hell of it. This one is no exception.

To summarize it all, this album takes the level these guys were in “Demigod” and “Zos Kia Cultus” and sends that very level to shit, blasting into hyperspace. The stuff here is better than both those efforts…combined. I’m not even kidding.

Zbigniew Robert “Inferno” Promiński. That’s the name of the insane maniac behind the drumkit, and that’s really one the high parts here. It’s astounding, astonishing, assblasting, ass2mouthing, it’s just that good. Nergal’s vocals are also better than ever. And the atmospheric feeling of it all! It just feels like the entire world is coming to an end, everything is going straight to hell and the death/black menace of a sound portrayed here is the soundtrack. I love every second of it.

The cool thing about it is that it also isn’t just mindless pounding of the ears, either. There are a lot of different moments, “At the Left Hand ov God” and “Libertherme” are slow and sinister, while “Pazuzu” and “Kriegsphilosophie” are brutal, fast, chaotic. And, shit! Warrel Dane makes a special guest appearance. Warrel Fucking Dane from Nevermore! And believe you me, the track “Inner Sanctum”, where this happens, might just be the best of all. Well worth checking out.

But, wait, there’s more! On top of all the metal mayhem, there are vocal choirs, pianos, trumpets, orchestral thingies…the whole shebang! And it sounds cooler than fuck, seriously, by no means is this boring CoF/Dimmu Burger crap. It’s awesome.

I’ll keep it simple for you; get it, you won’t be disappointed, especially if you’re already into Behemoth.

The cover: I love it, one of those weird-ass Indian god/goddesses, fits perfectly to the sound.

9.5 arms and limbs of a Hindu deity out of 10.
